L'abbé Paysant painted the front and interior of this church
between 1873 and 1921. His work has almost completely worn away, but
the church has been spectacularly restored. The exterior is worth the
drive, but make the small effort to see the interior (see Hours,
below).
Hours
Daily 2:30 – 6 PM,
or so I heard somewhere. I kind of doubt
it. The exterior is visible at all times. To see the interior, go to
the cafe next door, and they will give you a key in exchange for your
passport. I don't know when the cafe is open; we were there at lunch
time.
Directions
61210 Ménil-Gondouin, West of Argentan.
Ménil-Gondouin is, at most, a hamlet. Find your way to
Putanges-Pont-Ecrepin, and take D15 toward Ménil-Gondouin.
There
is a sign. You don't want to go toward Falaise or Argentan. About four
of five kilometers out of town, the church is on the left side of the
road.
Putanges-Pont-Ecrepin is a nice little town, with some small places for
lunch.
